I have extensive experience teaching Classical language, literature and culture and helping students to improve their writing, critical thinking, and study skills. I have taught at a wide range of institutions, and I appreciate the great potential of universities and colleges to open up the world of Classics for a diverse community.
Outside of teaching, my own projects over the years have been characterized by interdisciplinary topics and digital presentation. I also spend much time and energy on music-I play the flute and the saxophone. As a classicicist I am struck by the ancient contrast with modern perceptions of musicians. I am fascinated by the tension between art, technology, class and religion that the ancient “flutist” embodied.
My recent work at the Brooklyn College OER project, though not in specifically in the field of Classics, has been fundamental to my career as an educator. In this position, I collaborate with faculty to create and curate interactive, media-rich, and user-friendly websites and digital tools, and to search for new and effective digital pedagogies. The work I have done represents relevant digital pedagogy that I’m proud offer to the world as well as to Brooklyn College. Currently I am acting as editor for a collaborative open Latin textbook project called Somnium Latinitatis.
